Risperdal

Have you or a loved one been prescribed the antipsychotic drug Risperdal? The Pinkerton Law Firm is currently pursuing lawsuits on behalf of young boys who have developed male breast tissue, which is alleged to have resulted from their use Risperdal. Pharmaceutical companies have a duty to adequately warn of the risks associated with the various drugs pedaled to the public. Here, Johnson & Johnson allegedly failed to provide adequate warnings about this risk and failed to properly research the side effects of the drug.

Recent research has surfaced supporting allegations that Risperdal may cause the development of breasts in young males. More importantly, a study published in a 2006 issue of the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology stated that risperidone, the generic version of Risperdal, “administered to adolescents at doses commonly used for the treatment of psychotic symptoms can strongly increase prolactin levels, with clinical consequences such as gynecomastia.” Prolactin is a hormone that stimulates breast development in women. Risperdal may increase levels of prolactin, and young males who have taken prolactin and are displaying increased levels of this hormone may develop male breasts, the growth of which is scientifically referred to as gynecomastia. Boys who have developed gynecomastia may experience pain or nipple discharge.

If you are wondering whether you are alone, you are not. Numerous Risperdal lawsuits are pending against Johnson & Johnson and its Janssen unit, alleging Risperdal caused young boys to grow breasts.

Those who have developed breasts as a result of Risperdal use can suffer from severe psychological trauma and embarrassment. Also, adolescents affected by the side effects of Risperdal, such as those suffering from gynecomastia, will most likely require a liposuction procedure, but in severe cases, a mastectomy surgery must be performed.

If you or your child took Risperdal and suffered side effects that include male breast growth, you may be entitled to compensation for surgical expenses, hospital bills, mental anguish, and other damages.
