INJURIES AND RELAPSE

A very large part of what we do at the Pinkerton Law Firm is helping people recover from their injuries. What a lot of people don’t realize is this: just because you’ve finished your treatment and feel 100% better, doesn’t mean you actually are. Take for instance many NFLers. They have surgery late in the off season and rush through rehab to get back in time for the first game of the season. They are feeling good and doing fine, and the BOOM, there’s a tough hit and all of a sudden you’re out for the rest of the season.

As many people know, Texas football is a big deal. J.J. Watt is an even bigger deal. I feel for this guy because he is a phenomenal player that makes the game that more interesting. Win or lose, go to a Texans game and ask them how they feel about JJ Watt. If it’s a win I’m sure they are going to be happy, but even when it’s a loss, the people are still happy to have seen him play. So it makes me sad that such a talented athlete is injured.

As many of you know by now, JJ is going to need back surgery again. He was the face of the Texans and the reason a whole lot of people came to watch the Texans play. But it’s not over yet. I think the Texans have a very capable QB in Osweiler and if he standing behind a line that believes in him, I bet you we’ll see a lot more action from him. I wish JJ a speedy recovery and hope we see him out there better than ever.

But I digress. What I want to remind people of today is to be very careful coming out of therapy. JJ Watt is the perfect example. Even a specimen of peak physical condition, shouldn’t push their recovery. More often than not we have clients who complete their rehabilitation and feel great the day of their discharge, only to be back in therapy a few weeks later because they weren’t actually at 100%.

The point is, if you are coming off an injury, take it slow. As you get older, your body needs more time to heal. I would suggest taking it easy for at least 2 weeks after any rehabilitation before you start getting back into a normal lifestyle. Skipping a few activities now can save you a lot of pain down the road, and ensure you don’t miss any in the future.

As always, we at THE PINKERTON LAW FIRM are here to help. If you’ve been injured and need help, give us a call at 713-360-6722.
